Guide to a Safe Floridian Summer

Guide to a Safe Floridian Summer
Florida beaches are a great way to spend summer, as long as you do it safely!
  • Post Category:Blogs

Whether you plan to spend the rest of your summer at one of Florida’s many amusement parks, at the beach, or simply stay inside, you will have to be sure that you are prepared for the summer heat. Summers in Florida are no joke, from the high temperatures to the high humidity percentages. Reports showed that last July was the hottest on record in all of Florida’s recorded history. There is a chance that this year can outdo last year’s record. In order to stay safe whilst still enjoying your summer, here is our foolproof guide to the perfect Floridian summer!

Wear Sunscreen and Stay Hydrated

While out and about, the Florida sun is no joke. People can very easily burn, which can sometimes just be minor, but other times be very severe in harm. In order to avoid skin damage, wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. Apply the sunscreen liberally and be sure to reapply throughout the day.

Drinking water and staying hydrated is essential to life. This goes for any time of the year, but it is especially important in summer. As you sweat more, you require more water to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water and mix with electrolytes to boost hydration.

Have Your Car Checked

A car can overheat in the same way a person can. The best way to stop this from happening is by taking preventive measures. Have your car looked at by a mechanic prior to any big drives this summer. Be sure that they check the cooling system, brake system, air conditioning system, and tires. These are all essential to keeping the vehicle running smoothly in the heat and making sure you can safely operate it too.

Never Leave Children or Animals in a Hot Car

When cars are turned off in the summer, even when parked in the shade, the inside can get very hot. In Florida heat, this can happen very quickly. Young children and pets are unable to regulate body temperature as easily as adult humans can, making this a possibly deadly decision to leave children in a vehicle in this way. Even if you believe you will be making a quick stop, you should never leave children or pets unattended in this way.

Know Simple Wound Care

If you are heading to the beach, you should be prepared in case of an emergency. Ahead of going to the beach you should know some basic information about wounds. Do not enter the water if you have an open or healing wound. Doing so will likely worsen the wound and poses a risk to others. Be careful of any rocks and shells. Have a simple first aid kit with you in case you get cut by any rock or shell on the beach.
