Staying Prepared During Hurricane Season

Staying Prepared During Hurricane Season
Florida is in hurricane season until the end of November.
  • Post Category:Blogs

As we are now in June, we are officially sitting in the early days of hurricane season in Florida and other southern states. Hurricane season lasts through to the end of November most often, so we are now in the long stretch of hurricane season days. Statewide, people are preparing their homes and themselves for possible storms that could strike at any moment. If we are lucky enough to get by without a full blown hurricane, we may still be hit by a tropical storm or overall rainy and windy conditions. It is important to stay prepared in case of any disaster weather and know that you will be safe in these conditions. Here are our biggest tips to ensure you stay safe through this hurricane season.

Develop an Evacuation Plan

Whether you live on your own, with your family, or with roommates, all residents of the house must come together to make and understand an evacuation plan. When making your plan, create various options in different directions on where you will go, should you need to evacuate. The locations do not need to be incredibly far, just out of likely risk areas. With these plans, be sure to account for children, pets, and anything else that might need extra attention at the time of evacuation.

Have a Bag Ready

If it comes to a point where you need to evacuate, it is important to be able to get up and go as quickly as possible. That is why it is best to have a grab and go bag packed and ready. In this bag, you will want to have any essentials you need. You should have at least one change of clothes for everyone, diapers, if need be, travel toiletries, non-perishable food, and water. It is also helpful to have things like extra batteries and other tools just in case,

Have Your Home Stocked Up

Furthermore, even if you do not get evacuated, there is a chance where you cannot leave your home for several days should a storm hit. We suggest having an emergency kit of things at home, which is separate from your evacuation bag. In this kit, you will want to make sure you are stocked up on all of the same things that you should have in an evacuation bag.
